MIT's New Tech to Make Self-Driving Cars Safer

ShadowCam
A new device, ShadowCam, invented by MIT engineers and computer scientists, enables a self-driving car to read tiny changes in shadows on the ground in order to spot an oncoming vehicle or walking pedestrian behind a corner and in a blind-spot.  It's been successfully tested in indoor, enclosed parking lots. It appears to make self-driving vehicles a lot safer.
